Club career
Johnston began his career at Manchester United Football Academy . In the 2010/11 season, he was the main goalkeeper of the club’s youth. July 26, 2011 he moved to the club " Oldham Athletic " on loan [2] . For “Oldham” he spent two friendly matches in the team’s pre-season tour, after which he returned to “ Old Trafford ”. September 9, 2011 he moved to the club " Scunthorpe United " on loan [3] . The very next day, he made his debut for the club in a match against Sheffield United , which ended in a draw with the score 1: 1 [4] . After the lease at Scunthorpe, Johnston returned to Manchester United, playing in the finals of the playoffs of the reserve Premier League against Aston Villas, while making a decisive save in the penalty shoot-out , thanks to which United won the championship among reserve teams [5] .
July 3, 2018 moved to West Bromwich Albion , signing a four-year contract with the club. The amount of transfer amounted to 6.5 million pounds [6] .
Career in the national team
He played for England before 16, before 17 and before 19 years. In September 2010 he made his debut for the England national team under 19 years old in a match against the Slovak national team [7] .
In 2010, he won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship , where he was the team’s main goalkeeper.
In 2013, he took part in the youth world championship for players under 20 years old .
