  • The reaction of metallic indium with an excess of iodine in a stream of carbon dioxide:

Physical Properties

Indium iodide (I) forms red-brown crystals, stable in dry air.

It is poorly soluble in cold water, ethanol , diethyl ether , chloroform .

Chemical Properties

  • Slowly decomposes in hot water:
InI+H2O→InOH+HI{\ displaystyle {\ mathsf {InI + H_ {2} O \ {\ xrightarrow {}} \ InOH + HI}}}  
  • In the presence of oxygen, reacts with water:
