History
The Tula Provincial Gymnasium was opened on August 7 ( 19 ), 1804 on the basis of the Senate decree "On the establishment of schools" of January 26, 1803. The two upper classes of the Main Public School of Tula were transformed into the two lower classes of the four-grade gymnasium, and the county school was formed from the two lower classes. The director of the gymnasium was at the same time the director of the public schools of the Tula province, but was subordinate to the rector of Moscow University and the trustee of the Moscow school district , which was in charge of the gymnasium.
In 1809, there were 40 students and 9 teachers in the gymnasium (together with the director). In the same house with the gymnasium there was also the Tula district school. In 1857, there were 314 students in the gymnasium. The number of students in the gymnasium grew every year: in 1887 there were 446 students in the gymnasium, and in 1908, 632 gymnasium students.
In 1835, the teaching of chemistry, technology and mechanics was introduced at the Tula gymnasium in accordance with the cultural and industrial traditions of the region.
In 1840, the “Noble guesthouse” was opened at the gymnasium. At the initiative of Count V. A. Bobrinsky [1], the Tula nobility raised money donations for its arrangement, and Bobrinsky himself donated 25 thousand rubles. Only children of noble families were initially accepted into the boarding house, but later children of all classes began to be accepted. In the boarding school at the gymnasium there were 50-60 students.
In 1865, in accordance with the "Charter of gymnasiums and gymnasiums" of November 19, 1864, it was transformed into a classical gymnasium. In 1871 it was renamed the Tula Men's Gymnasium; was administered by the trustee of the Moscow school district .
From 1862 until the end of its existence, the Tula male gymnasium was located in the old Luginins mansion on Lopatinskaya Street (now - Mendeleevskaya Street , 7) [2] [3] . In 1881, a decision was made to extend the stone wing, which housed the sports and assembly halls, and in 1893-1895, the educational building was added perpendicular to the main building. In May 1908, an adjacent plot of land with a stone house and two wings was bought from the city at the expense of the gymnasium [4] .
Not later than June 1918 (the exact date has not been set) was renamed the 1st Tula Men's Gymnasium , but already in the period 1918/19 academic year it was reorganized into the 1st Soviet Second-Grade School.
