Shandy [1] [2] [3] [4] ( Arabic: شندي ) is a city in eastern Sudan located on the territory of the state of the Nile .

45 kilometers northeast of Shandy is the ancient city of Meroe , recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site .

Geographical position
The city is located in the southern part of the state, on the right bank of the Nile [5] , at an altitude of 376 meters above sea level [2] . Shandy is located approximately 110 kilometers southwest of Ed Damer , the provincial capital, and 155 kilometers northeast of Khartoum , the country's capital.
Climate
The climate of the city is tropical desert very hot, little precipitation (80 mm) all fall in the summer during the monsoon, although here it is weakly expressed.

Economics
The basis of the city’s economy is the sale of agricultural products produced in rural areas surrounding Shandy. Tourism also plays a small role, which is associated primarily with the lack of necessary infrastructure.
Transport
On the northern outskirts of the city there is an airport ( ICAO : HSND).
Education
In 1994, a university was founded in Shandy .
