Alexander Fedorovich Brandt is a professor of zoology at Kharkov University , the son of an academician and professor Fedor Fedorovich Brandt .

Biography
Alexander Brandt was born in St. Petersburg on February 16, 1844, he studied at the Larinsky gymnasium from 1854 to 1861, and then at the Medical-Surgical Academy , where he graduated from the course in 1866 with a gold medal and the Bush Prize .
During his student years he worked especially in the physiological laboratory of Sechenov, at the zoological and comparative anatomical study of his father, and in particular in the histology of F. V. Ovsyannikov .
During repeated trips abroad (1862, 1867, 1868, 1869, 1870) he attended lectures by professors of Haeckel , Gegenbaura , worked in the laboratory of R. Leuckart and practically worked at sea (in Trieste and Naples).
In 1867, Brandt was awarded the degree of doctor of medicine, in 1870 - master's degree, and in 1876 - doctor of zoology.
From January 1, 1867 to January 1, 1870 was left at the Medical-Surgical Academy in the rank of junior resident, for improvement in the zoological sciences.
From 1871 to 1880, he was the curator of the Zoological Museum of the Imperial Academy of Sciences, assistant professor at St. Petersburg University and in recent years also a teacher of natural history at the Women's Patriotic Institute.
In 1880, he was elected an ordinary professor at the Kharkov Veterinary Institute , and in 1887 he was approved as an ordinary professor at Kharkov University. Founder (1896) and first director of the Kharkov Zoo.
