Range
Gelonias is an endemic of eastern North America . The 1997 IUCN Red List of Rare Plants has the status of a “rare species” ( Rare ). Linnaeus pointed out that this plant was described from Pennsylvania , however, according to E.T. Warry and F.T.
Gelonias grows in swamps in the area of the Blue Ridge . Often grown in botanical gardens, including in Europe .
Taxonomy
The American genus Helonias is morphologically close to two Asian genera - Heloniopsis and Ypsilandra . Previously, these three genera were sometimes combined into one, but according to the results of molecular phylogenetic studies, they were recognized as quite clearly limited from each other and combined into the tribe Heloniadeae .
