Biography
Andrew Thomas Gage was born in Aberdeen on December 14, 1871 .
After graduating from the Literacy School in Old Aberdeen, he studied botany and medicine at the University of Aberdeen . In 1891, Gage received a master's degree, in 1893 a bachelor's degree, and in 1896 a bachelor's degree in medicine. From 1894 to 1896 he was a field doctor with the military rank of lieutenant in the Indian Medical Service . From 1897 to 1898, Andrew Thomas was the curator of the herbarium at Indian Botanical Gardens in Haura . From 1898 to 1905 he was the head of the Botanical Garden. Between 1917 and 1918, Gage was responsible, on behalf of the army in British India, for making quinine from quinine wood .
In 1901, Andrew Thomas Gage became a member of the Linnaeus Society of London . From 1924 to 1929 he was a librarian and assistant secretary of this society. Gage was an avid plant collector and collected botanical collections for Malaysia , Burma , Sikkim , Assam and Chittagong for the Botanical Services of India and the Royal Kew Botanical Gardens .
Andrew Thomas Gage died in Scotland on January 21, 1945 .
