According to scientists, about 150,000 Jews (residents of Kiev , as well as other Ukrainian cities [2] [3] , were executed in Babi Yar , but this number does not include young children under three years of age who were also killed but not counted [4] ) Bullets often spared children, and instead of being shot, they were usually buried alive or killed with batons.
A number of researchers believe that more than 150,000 were killed [5] [6] . The number of children who were able to escape from Babyn Yar from tens of thousands of those killed was less than ten .
The monument was erected on September 30, 2001 [7] . Sculptor Valery Medvedev , architect Yuri Melnichuk (with the participation of R. Bukharenko).
These atrocities were carried out mainly by collaborators and the Einsatzgruppe C unit.
