Simmons, Ron

Ronald Simmons ( born Ronald "Ron" Simmons , born May 15, 1958) is a former American professional wrestler and American football player. Simmons performed in the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) under his real name, and in World Wrestling Federation / World Wrestling Entertainment (WWF / E) under the real name and stage names Farouk Assad and Farouk [1] .

At WCW, he became the first African American to win the world heavyweight title [1] [2] . WWE also considers him the first black world heavyweight champion in the history of professional wrestling [3] . He also once won the world team title with Butch Reed, as well as the United States team champion with Big Josh. In WWF, he three times became a team champion with Bradshaw , with whom they organized the Acolytes Protection Agency (The APA ) [4] . In 2012, Simmons was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame .

Before joining professional wrestling, Simmons played American football for the student team, and then professionally in the National Football League , Canadian Football League and US Football League . At university, he played for the Florida State University team and was selected for the All-American team. In the NFL, he played for the Cleveland Browns , in the CFL for the Ottawa Rough Raiders , and in the USFL for the Tampa Bay Bandits .
