It was the residence of kings, a lot of attractions are concentrated in the city. Actively visited by tourists.
The unfinished Minghun-Paya stupa , whose construction was started by King Bodopai in 1790, is amazing . The stupa was built for many years, but was not completed, as astrologers predicted that the king would die immediately after construction, and construction stopped in 1813 . According to other versions, construction was cut short due to lack of funds. It was planned to bring the height of the stupa to 150 m, it would be the largest stupa in the world. However, after the death of the king in 1819, construction was not resumed, and the earthquake on March 23, 1839 destroyed an unfinished stupa, and there are still cracks. The pagoda was built only one third.
The small Pondo-Paya pagoda is a smaller model of Mingun-Paya, as it should have looked like the original plan.
The same King Bodopaya built a giant bell that weighs 90 tons, second only to Tsar Bell in Moscow. The Burmese are proud that their bell, unlike the Moscow bell, is ringing. In Burmese measures, the weight of the bell is 55555 tikalov, which is written “Min Mhu Mhan Mhan Pyaw”, the letters M and P represent the number 5 in Burmese astrology and numerology.
Pagoda Sinbume-Payya built with special grace, includes a multi-tiered gallery with small pagodas, turrets and symbolizes the cosmogonic structure of the universe. The pagoda was built in 1816 , it was also destroyed by an earthquake, but it was restored by King Mindon in 1874 .
Settavia-Paya pagoda in the same style as Sinbume-Paya keeps the footprint of the Buddha, built in 1811 .
There is also a convent in Mingun, where the elderly are cared for, located directly near the historical part of the city, so many nuns can be found in pagodas.
At the end of February and the beginning of March, a festival of nats (natural spirits) is held in Mingun.
