Biography

 
V.I. Molchanov, 1911

He graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University (1894). He worked as an intern at a university children's clinic. Assistant and manager of infectious clinics of the clinic (since 1904). He initiated the work on updating the inventory and tools, re-equipment of the laboratory and bacteriological cabinet. Molchanov introduced a systematic study of blood, blood pressure, observation of vascular skin reactions and cardiac disorders, and launched experimental histological studies. He defended his thesis (1909) "Adrenal glands and their changes in diphtheria" for the degree of doctor of medicine. Appointed (1921) Head of the Department of Children's Diseases Polyclinic of the Higher Medical School in Moscow. Elected (1923) as the head of the department of childhood diseases of the 1st Moscow State University.

Vasily Ivanovich Molchanov, the closest student of the founder of Russian pediatrics , N.F. Filatov , brilliantly supported and developed the traditions and ideas of his teacher. Among his largest and most original studies, it is worth mentioning the works devoted to the role of the adrenal glands in the genesis of toxic diphtheria and heart paralysis in it, the state of the autonomic nervous system in scarlet fever and other acute childhood infections, the relationship of scarlet fever and rheumatism, the growth and developmental disorders of children, the role of social household factors in the etiology and pathogenesis of childhood diseases and many others. All the works of V. I. Molchanov are not only of great theoretical interest, but also of great importance for the practice of health storage. These works speak about his exceptional clinical observation and impeccable accuracy in experimental studies. Peru V.I. Molchanov and his closest associates, professors Yu.F. Dombrovskaya and D.D. Lebedev, own a valuable guide "Propaedeutics of childhood diseases."

Vasily Molchanov was buried in Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow [1] .

Awards

The multifaceted scientific, medical and social activities of V.I. Molchanov were evaluated on their merit: for many years (over 65 years) of excellent work, he was awarded the Order of Lenin , the Order of the Red Banner of Labor , and medals. In 1935, he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of the RSFSR [1] .
