Grand Bassam ( French Grand-Bassam ) - a city in Cote d'Ivoire , located east of Abidjan . The French colonial capital from 1893 to 1896, when the administration was moved to Bingerville after an outbreak of yellow fever . Gran Basam remained the main port of the colony until the 1930s, when this function was transferred to Abidjan.
