AMPRNet

AMPRNet (abbreviated from the English. AMateur Packet Radio Network ) is a computer network connected through amateur radio stations . In another way, the network is called IPv4 Network 44/8 or just network 44 .

AMPRNet is connected by access points via an amateur packet radio . The communication speed usually does not exceed 9600 baud (often 1200 or less) due to restrictions on the bandwidth of the air. AMPRNet fully supports TCP / IP , which allows you to use the FTP , Telnet , Ping , Finger and Http protocols. Recently, AMPRNet has the opportunity to establish communication between access points at a speed of 108 Mbps thanks to the use of HSMM ( English ).

Today, AMPRNet consists of several subnets located around the world. Many subnets are connected by tunnels over the Internet.

Address allocation

IP addresses in AMPRNet are within the 44.0.0.0/8 network. Addresses from this network are available for each licensed ham radio. Address allocation is done by volunteer coordinators.
