Biography

Ethel was the third daughter of a graduate of the English law school Lincolns Inn Henry Sargent and Emma Beale. She studied at the University School of North London, and in 1881-1885. - at Cambridge College of Gerton.

For several years she worked as a nerd at home, and in 1892-1893. - In the laboratory of Geordell in Kew Gardens under the supervision of Dr. D.H. Scott. Later she studied the structure of seeds, in 1907, gave a course of lectures on botany at the University of London and was the head of the botany section at the forum of the British Association in Birmingham in 1913.

In 1912, she moved to Old Rektori in the Cambridge suburb of Gerton, where in 1913 she was elected an honorary member of Gurton College, and in 1918 she became president of the Federation of Women Teachers.

During the First World War, compiled a register of women teachers with sufficient qualifications to perform work of national importance. Subsequently, this registry was handed over to the Ministry of Labor.

She bequeathed Herton College to her botany library and bookcases. In 1919, Ethel Sarzhant's friends founded a scholarship of her name in memory of her, issued for research in the field of natural sciences.
