He took an active part, in the ranks of the liberals, in the political struggle of his time and in the early 30s was the mayor of one of the districts of Paris .
Chateaubriand and others accused him of allowing the Vandal destruction of a lily-decorated cross in the Saint-Germain church , while in fact only the intercession of Cade de Gassicourt, who declared the church “national property”, saved her from destruction.
