About the song

In 1980, Lennon said: “It was something like a nice line that I had invented for a song. She was about me and Yoko . Everyone seemed to be paranoid, except for the two of us who were in the light of love. When you are in love, everything is clear and open. All around us were, as it were, tense, you know: “What is she doing here at the session? Why is she with him? “. All this madness is happening around us because it just so happened that we always want to be together ” [2] .

George Harrison said that the first part of the song title came from the quotation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi [3] ; however, he doesn’t know where the part “... except me and my monkey” came from, although Paul McCartney thinks it’s a reference to Lennon’s heroin addiction [4] : “John started talking about drugs and monkeys. It was a complicated terminology that the rest of us did not understand. ” Lennon recalled: “We breathed a little while we were really hurt. We took heroin because the Beatles and their buddies did it to us ” [5] .
