History
XXVIII World Youth Day is the second in a row held in South America . The first was World Youth Day, held in Buenos Aires , Argentina in April 1987 .
Conduct
The theme of the meeting was a passage from the Gospel of Matthew (28, 19) - Go and teach all the nations .
On the day of Pentecost , May 27, 2012, the patrons of the XXVIII World Youth Day were officially approved among which were: Our Lady of Aparecida ( en: Our Lady of Aparecida ), St. Sebastian , St. Theresa of Lisieux , Blessed John Paul II and others.
The final Mass, held on Copacabana Beach, was attended by over three million people [2] , including the presidents of Brazil ( Dilma Rousseff ), Argentina ( Christina Kirchner ) and Bolivia ( Evo Morales ) [3] .
Logo
The presentation of the logo was postponed from February 1 to February 7, 2012 in connection with the tragedy in the center of Rio de Janeiro , in which 17 people died [4] . The author of the logo was the 25-year-old native of Kantagalu, Gustavo Ugenin [5] .
The hands of Christ the Redeemer beyond the edges of the heart personify the warm embrace of God and the young people who will come to Brazil. They also indicate the hospitality and generosity of the Brazilians. The upper green element is a symbol of Sugarloaf Mountain - the traditional symbol of Rio de Janeiro, and the Pilgrim Cross placed on it underlines the original name of Brazil - the Land of the Holy Cross. The blue color completing the heart-shaped logo (Student's Heart) indicates the coast on which Rio de Janeiro (Brazilian coast) is located. Green and yellow represent the colors of the national flag of Brazil .
