Biography
Emil Levy was born in Paris in 1826. He studied with Francois Edouard Picot and Abel de Puigol . He also studied at the National Graduate School of Fine Arts in Paris. He began to exhibit his works since 1851 and, having received in 1854 a large Roman prize , he spent six years in Italy . Upon returning to Paris, he lived without a visit in this city, exhibiting his paintings at annual salons and enjoying the reputation of one of the best representatives of the newest French painting.
The artist died in Paris in 1890.

He painted historical and allegorical paintings in an idyllic character, as well as portraits, genres, plafonds, etc.
