Joseph Finger ( German: Josef Finger ; January 1, 1841 - May 6, 1925 ) - Austrian physicist and mathematician. Considered a pioneer in the field of continuum mechanics .

Biography
Born on January 1, 1841 in Pilsen in the family of a baker. After graduating from high school in Pilsen, he entered Charles University in Prague . In 1865, due to financial problems, he was forced to go to school to work as a teacher of mathematics and physics.
From 1888 to 1890 he was dean at the chemistry school, and from 1890 to 1891 he was rector of the Higher Technical School of Vienna . In 1916, Finger was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Technical Sciences.
He died on May 6, 1925 in St. Georgen .
