Biography
Born in the village Chuyunchi Davlekanovskogo area. After graduating from high school in 1946, he entered the Bashkir State Medical Institute (now BSMU), after which from 1951 to 1955 he worked as chief physician and surgeon at the Kuyurgazinskaya district hospital. Then he entered the graduate school of the Institute of Surgery. AVVishnevskogo. Since 1958, Nail Gataullin - employee of the Bashkir Medical Institute: first assistant and head of the department of thoracic surgery at the base of the 1st city clinical hospital, from 1966 to 1993 - head of the department of hospital surgery, since 1993 - professor of this department. In 1966 he defended his doctoral thesis. In 1968 he was awarded the title of professor.
For 25 years he was the chairman of the board of the Republican Society of Surgeons, until 1991 he was a member of the Board of the All-Union Society of Surgeons, was a member of the All-Russian and International Society of Surgeons. Under his leadership, in Ufa, Republican Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery Centers and the Federal Center for the Rehabilitation of Patients with Peritoneal Disease have been created and are successfully functioning on the basis of the City Clinical Hospital No. 6. He is the author of more than 400 scientific papers, including 6 monographs. Under the guidance of Professor Gataullina doctoral and candidate dissertations are defended.

He was one of the organizers of the I Congress of Oncologists of the RSFSR (1973, Ufa), the All-Russian Conference of Surgeons (1976, Ufa), a number of plenary sessions of the Board of the All-Russian Scientific Society and all conferences of the Bashkir Republican Society of Surgeons from 1968 to 1990.
Along with the medical and scientific work, he paid much attention to educational and methodical work. On his initiative and projects, a lecture-training building was built at the 6th city clinical hospital.
The journalistic activities of Professor Gataullin, his ability to depict the world around with colors and pencil do not cease to play a special educational role in the student environment. His broad outlook, encyclopedic knowledge in the field of history and literature, as well as in art were an example to follow.
He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, commemorative medals, including the Pirogov Surgical Society Medal for Outstanding Merits in the Development of Surgery, for his great achievements in the development of domestic surgical science, the training of medical and scientific personnel. In 1976 he was awarded the honorary title "Honored Worker of Science of the Republic of Belarus", and in 1991 - the title "Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation." In the same year, Nail Gataullin was elected a corresponding member, in 1995 - a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus. In 2013, he was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Bashkortostan in the field of science and technology.
He died after a long illness on April 26, 2015 in Ufa. Buried in the Southern cemetery of the city of Ufa.
