Story

The Watch Dogs storyline is based on the concept of information warfare : data has become interconnected, and the use of technology is increasing in the world. The game takes place in an alternative version of the reality of the city of Chicago ( Illinois ), which is one of many cities that use the ctOS operating system . The system controls almost every part of the city, and also contains information about all its residents and events that can be used for various purposes [4] . In the game universe, an accident in the power system in the US and Canada was caused by hackers to encourage the development of ctOS [5] . The main character of the game is Aiden Pearce, a highly skilled hacker described as a person using “both fists and intelligence” [6] . A demo of the gameplay at E3 showed how Aiden uses the ability to turn off communications, telephones and control traffic lights, thereby making it easier to avenge his family’s offenders. [7] .

Characters

  • Aiden Pearce ( Avenger, Fox ) is the protagonist and protagonist of Watch Dogs. A hacker who is hiding from the police and also wants to take revenge on the offenders of his family. In the Russian version voiced by Denis Bespaly [8] .
  • T-Bone Grady (real name Raymond Kinney ) is the protagonist of Bad Blood. Specialist in monitoring and electronics. Was hired by Blume to create an encoder for ctOS. In the Russian version voiced by Nikita Prozorovsky .

In the middle of the game, you are given the choice to kill him or let him go. Regardless of the choice, the character appears in the supplement, as it turns out that the club had his double. Killed by T-Bone.
  • Dermot Lucky Quinn is the head of the Chicago South Club crime syndicate. Killed by Aiden. In the Russian version voiced by Valery Storozhik .
  • Clara Lill ( Bully 17 ) is a professional hacker and girlfriend of Aiden Pearce. Dies in the mission “There is no turning back” at the hands of the people of Lucky Quinn. In the Russian version voiced by Elena Shulman [8] .
  • Jordi Chin is an arms expert and friend of Aiden Pearce. Soon betrays the main character. At the end of the game, Aiden was dropped from the lighthouse, but remained alive. Later, Jordi, as if nothing had happened, called Aiden, telling the location of Maurice. In the Russian version voiced by Mikhail Belyakovich [8] .
  • Maurice Vega is the man of Lucky Quinn who killed Aiden's niece. At the end of the game, you have the choice to kill him or let him go. In the Russian version voiced by Diomid Vinogradov.
  • Nicole Pierce is Aiden's sister, mother of Lena and Jackson. In the Russian version voiced by Anastasia Lapina.
  • Jackson Pierce is Aiden's nephew.
  • Bedbag is Tyrone Hayes - Iraq's cousin, dreaming of taking a higher position in Viceroys. Not of his own will helps the protagonist. In the Russian version voiced by Alexander Kovrizhnykh.

Gameplay

The main elements of Watch_Dogs gameplay include hacking and surveillance [10] . The protagonist of the game, Aiden Pearce, can use any device connected to the central operating system of the city (ctOS) as a weapon against him [6] . While showing a demo of the gameplay, Aiden, in order to get to a paid art exhibition, as a distraction, interferes with the signals of mobile phones, also listens to telephone conversations to obtain information about her target, and acts on traffic lights, causing a car accident to intercept the target [6] . Also, the player can access information from "ctOS" on non-game characters that he encounters, including information about demographics, health, etc. The game has 8 abilities to interact with the city using "ctOS":

  • Disconnect communication and power off (breaking cameras)
  • Stopping trains and overloading electrical networks
  • Reconfiguration of traffic lights and driving a car
  • Raising bridges and barriers

Development

Game development began in 2009 [11] . Ubisoft Montreal creative director Jonathan Morin noted that Watch Dogs aims to “go beyond today's open-world games,” allowing players to use its information as the basis of the plot and control the whole city using hacking mechanics [6] . The working name of the game is Nexus [12] .

Especially for the game, Ubisoft Montreal created a new game engine called - Disrupt [13] . Ubisoft has given priority to developing versions of the game for the PC and game consoles of the eighth generation [14] . On March 6, 2014, the game’s story trailer appeared.

Edition

The game was officially unveiled during a Ubisoft press conference at the 2012 E3 International Game Show. However, earlier the game’s trailer was mistakenly posted on the Ubisoft YouTube channel , but was quickly removed before its official debut [15] [16] . Ubisoft later confirmed the release of the game on PC [7] . On February 15, 2013, GameStop employees sent Kotaku an advertising image of the game, along with a more detailed story. The photo of the flyer hinted that the game will be released at the end of 2013 on “all home consoles” [17] . The release of Watch Dogs took place on May 27, 2014 on Windows, PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4 , Xbox 360 , Xbox One . The Wii U version went on sale in the fourth quarter of 2014.
