Public Recognition
The voice of Alexei Markov ( baritone ), according to critics, is characterized by a richness of intonation and depth of sound:
Outstanding was the performance of amazing artists - Sergei Semishkur as the joker Truffaldino and Alexei Markov, whose deep, developed voice gave even more danger to his cunning Leander.
- STEVE SMITH, The New York Times , November 17, 2008
Outstanding vocal impressed Alexey Markov. As in the role of the artist Marcel, the baritone left the most beautiful impression in another opera - he was just as good as Horeb in The Trojans at Carnegie Hall in March 2010. His warm, impressive voice sounds great in a large spacious hall. We should hear him in the Metropolitan as often as possible, in as many roles as possible.
Original Text (Eng.)An outstanding vocal performance tonight from Alexey Markov. As the painter Marcello, the baritone upheld the impression he had made it at the Carnegie Hall in March 2010. The voice is warm, the size is so good. The number of roles.[7]
- Metropolitan Opera House, November 22, 2011
Alexey Markov (Khoreb) demonstrated a rich, impressive voice with a thin legato.
Original Text (Eng.)Alexei Markov (Chorebus) showed a warm and sizable voice with a fine legato.- Oberon's Grove, March 10, 2010 [8]
Markov (born 1977) reached the final after performing arias from Donizetti’s Favorite and Verdi’s Macbeth, where he sang the stage and Renato’s aria (Alzati ... Eri tu) from the last act of Verdi’s Masquerade Ball . He has a technically sound voice. His expressive low tone combined with heroic, strong top. He draws fast passages with convincing pressure.
- Uwe Schneider, KLASSIK.COM, 29 November 2009
Critics also note the acting talent of Alexei Markov: [9] .
Alexey Markov, who had just arrived from Madrid, where he played the role of Robert in Iolanthe, appeared on the scene with bloodshot eyes and showed Fyodor Poyark immersed in an impressive power of suffering.
- fomalhaut.over-blog.org, 13 February 2012
It is impossible not to watch Verdi's "Troubadour" in the concert version. (...) The Champs Elysées Theater is a very promising version of the Bordeaux Theater. Starting with the role of Count di Luna, played by the excellent baritone Alexei Markov, with his bronze timbre and impeccable playing.
- A. Pecqueur, La Terrasse, 3 mai 2011
... his unique Onegin is exposed in the final scene, like a hand with which a glove was removed: fragile, lost, crazy, contradicting to himself. Usually this effect is achieved by a duet - but he pulls attention from Tatiana to himself, while the final scene is usually the big way out for the actress. (...) And Markov, though he does not yet have an impressive vocal of Drabovich, let his timbre is not as thick and rich as that of the Polish baritone of Andrzej Kjolski, sings with magnificent, complex phrases, telling with his singing, drawing the text.
- Jean-Charles Hoffelé, Concertclassic.com, May 19, 2010
Alexey Markov's track record is incomparably more impressive. On the stage of the Mariinsky Theater, he managed to perform a number of serious large parties, both Russian and Western European. His tightly knit, even, beautiful and sonorous voice is capable of holding the attention of the hall from the first to the last note. Compared with his first appearances on this stage a few years ago, the singer's intonations became much more plastic and expressive, and the stage charm was added to the strength of his voice.
- St. Petersburg Vedomosti , June 30, 2009
A tall, eye-catching, visually sensitive Alexey Markov radiated magnetism and melancholy. The baritone from Vyborg played his part in both actions with special fervor, eloquence and grace. When everything was sung and said, the audience left the theater, full of admiration.
