Aleksandr Sergeevich Sokolov (born August 8, 1949 , Leningrad ) is a Soviet and Russian musicologist and teacher. Minister of Culture and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation in 2004–2008, Professor and Rector of the Moscow State Conservatory. PI Tchaikovsky , head of the theory of music, doctor of art history. Member of the Union of Composers of Russia. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1999). Council member and member of the RHNF bureau. Member of the Council of Science MK RF. Member of the Council on Music Education MK RF. Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Conservatories of the CIS Member States. Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Conservatories of the Russian Federation. Biography
- Born in 1949 in Leningrad. He was educated in the house of his grandfather, a famous Russian writer I. S. Sokolov-Mikitov .
- 1964-1967 - a student of the Secondary Special Music School. Gnesinykh (specialization: violin-viola). Silver medal.
- 1967-1968 - student of the theoretical department of the Music School at the Moscow Conservatory . The ending is externally.
- 1968-1973 - student of the faculty of theoretical composition at the Moscow Conservatory. Diploma with honors.
- 1974-1979 - graduate student of the Moscow Conservatory, specialty "musical art".
Among the conservatory teachers are professional mentors of A. S. Sokolov: V. P. Bobrovsky, I. V. Lavrent'eva, E. V. Nazaikinsky.

Creative, scientific and practical activities
On the initiative of A. S. Sokolov, new training programs were introduced at the Moscow Conservatory for graduate students of the orchestral, conducting and choir faculties, specially focused on the problems of contemporary music, and new creative groups were created (among them the Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatory).
For many years, A.S. Sokolov has been conducting musical, critical, educational and organizational work as a member of the Union of Composers and the Musical Fund of Russia.
In September 2015, he took part in the reader's marathon “ Chekhov is alive ”, after reading the story of A. P. Chekhov “Flowers Belated” [4] on the air of the dramatized online readings.
A.S. As Minister of Culture and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Sokolov took an active part in the work of various interdepartmental coordination and advisory bodies in the field of culture and art, and is a leader and member of more than two dozen commissions, councils and working groups.
In 2007, he publicly criticized the works of outrageous pop art , in particular, the photograph “Era of Mercy” , sent to represent Russia at an exhibition in Paris, calling them pornography . [5] In this regard, the general director of the Tretyakov Gallery, Valentin Rodionov, filed a lawsuit, but then withdrew it. [6]

The main field of scientific interests of Sokolov, a musicologist, is modern musical culture and problems of analysis of music of the 20th century. Over fifty scientific papers are devoted to this topic, which highlight new aspects of the relationship of music with philosophy and aesthetics, psychology and semiotics , and musical acoustics.
