Old Cairo ( Arabic: مصر القديمة (القاهرة) , Misr al-Kadima ) is the historical part of the modern capital of Egypt .
Old Cairo is located on the site of the oldest settlements ( Fustat ). Ancient Roman buildings and ancient Coptic churches ( Church and Monastery of St. George , St. Paul's Church , Suspended Church ) are preserved on the territory of the Old Town , the Coptic Museum , the Babylonian Fortress , the Ben-Ezra Synagogue and the ancient mosques of Africa Amr ibn al-As and ibn Tulun are located . Also on the territory of Old Cairo there is a grotto where the Holy Family was hiding. [1] [2]
The part of the Old Town where Christian Copts live is called Coptic Cairo.
Old Cairo is actively visited by tourists coming to Egypt .
