Botanical Description

Huperzia sp. on Mount Roraima , Venezuela

Shoots of the same type, orthotropic, but lodging. In some forms, dwarf daughter branches, which serve as vegetative diasporas, occasionally form on the shoot.

Leaves (phyloids) are alternating, simple, with one vein reaching the tip of the leaf, amphistomous. Mesophyllum is represented by homogeneous chlorenchyma .

In representatives of the Baranets genus, as in drepanoficus , spore-bearing zones are formed on the shoot.

It differs from species of the Plown genus mainly in that sporangia are located in the axils of green leaves on non-specialized shoots.
