History
In the IV - VI centuries, the department of the city of Germopol Small (modern Damanhur ) was the center of the diocese that corresponded to the limits of the Roman province of Egypt the First and was under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Alexandria . The composition of this diocese also included Mount of Nithria [3] . In the Arab era, Small Germopol fell into decay and was the titular bishopric of the Coptic Church .
The Hermopolian department was restored by the Patriarchate of Alexandria in 1927 [4] .
Today, Metropolitan of Germany is the patriarchal epitope for the nourishment of the Arab-speaking Orthodox of Egypt . There are 4 Orthodox churches in Tanta: the Presentation of the Lord, the Great Martyr George, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Orthodox churches and communities are also located in the cities of Kafr al-Zayyat (Church of the Great Martyr. George), El Mahalle al-Kubra (Church of the Great Martyr. George), Benhe (Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker), Shibin el-Kome (Church of the Holy Spiridon, Bishop of Trimyphus).
