Biography
Born on June 20, 1918 [1] in the village of Dumatskhovi , Georgia , (according to other sources, in the Grozny Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ) , in a peasant family. Georgian. Education - 5 classes. In 1938-1941 he served in the Red Army . From June 1941 - in combat units. In 1943 he graduated from the courses of junior lieutenants.
In the rank of guard, the lieutenant commanded a company of the 311th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 108th Guards Rifle Division of the 46th Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front.
On the night of December 5, 1944, near the city of Erci ( Hungary ) skillfully organized a crossing on the Danube River . The company took the bridgehead and held it until the main forces of the regiment arrived. Personally, the grenades destroyed two enemy machine-gun points and, in hand-to-hand combat, 5 fascists. In the same battle he died.
March 24, 1945 George Papuashvili was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star, and medals. He was buried in the Hungarian village of Ergin near the church.
