Appearance

Body length 40 cm, tail 21 cm. The back and wings are green, the lower body, throat, neck and head are bright red. On the wings there is a white stripe, neck and nadhvost - dark blue. The tail is black at the top and dark blue at the bottom, with red edges. The beak of males is orange. The female is green, her lower back and lower back are blue, with a green border. The abdomen is red, the chest and throat are green with a reddish tinge. The beak of females is black-brown, young parrots acquire this luxurious feather outfit only in the second year of life.

Distribution

It lives in the east and southeast of Australia .

Lifestyle

They inhabit forest areas with dense undergrowth. They are found in large national parks where natural complexes are not yet disturbed by humans. On large farms, they feed with poultry.

Reproduction

Nest in tree hollows, in forks of hollow branches, etc. At the beginning of the nesting period, one can observe the current behavior of the male. It is expressed in the adoption of proud poses in front of the female, while feathers on the head rise, pupils narrow. The bird bows, spreads and folds its wings, accompanying all this with a sharp chirping scream. The female lays from 2 to 6 eggs and incubates them for about 3 weeks. The male feeds her at this time. After 37-42 days, the chicks leave the nest. The ability to reproduce persists until the age of 30.

Quite often you can see nature lovers. In small cells, he feels bad, but when kept in enclosures he lives in captivity for a long time and reproduces relatively easily. Taken young, easily tamed, but rarely learns to speak.
