Henri Amede Lelorne, Comte d'Ideville ( fr. Henry-Amédée Lelorgne, comte d'Ideville ; July 16, 1830 , Castle of Sona, now the commune of Sellul , department of Puy-de-Dome - June 15, 1887 ) - French diplomat and memoirist. The son of Louis d'Ideville .
For more than a decade, he served in the diplomatic service, being in 1859 - 1862 as part of the French mission in the Sardinian kingdom , then in 1862 - 1866 as part of the French embassy in Rome under the Papal throne. In 1866 he was elevated to the rank of count by Pope Pius IX . Then he briefly performed diplomatic duties in Dresden, and finally in 1867 - 1868 he worked as secretary of the French Embassy in Athens , where he happened to be the right hand of Joseph Gobino . In 1873 - 1874 he was the prefect of the city of Algeria .
Having retired, he took up literary and journalistic activities. Published in 1874 the book “Piedmontese in Rome. 1867-1870 ”( French Les Piémontais à Rome ; English translation of 1875 , Italian translation of 1982 ), composed of letters to him of two unnamed French diplomats, which described, in particular, an attempt to capture Rome by Giuseppe Garibaldi in 1867 and about the capture of Rome by the troops of the Italian kingdom in 1870 . In 1872 - 1875, in three editions, d'Ideville's own notes were published under the general title “Diary of a Diplomat” ( French Journal d'un diplomate ). In all these books, Idedev took a conservative position, condemning the actions of the Garibaldians and Sardinians to unite Italy and the derogation of papal power [1] .
In addition to diplomatic topics, Ideville’s name was in the center of public attention in 1872 when the Paris press discussed the murder of a young aristocrat by his wife, whom he found in the arms of a lover: Ideville published an article in the newspaper on the need to forgive a woman for treason and help her return to the true path, and in response to this article, Alexander Dumas the son published the book “Man-Woman” ( fr. L'homme-femme, réponse à M. Henri d'Ideville ), in which he proved in 177 pages that it is possible and necessary to kill a cheated wife [2] .
In the 1880s, Ideville studied the biography of Marshal Bujo , releasing three volumes based largely on correspondence and unpublished materials. In addition, Ideville published a collection of memoirs about the archaeologist and politician Charles Böhl , illustrated the volume “Castles of my childhood” ( French Les châteaux de mon enfance ; 1884 ) with a description of ten castles of Auvergne and others.
