Criticism and reviews
In the essay βLiquid identity. Love, heavy metal and the dynamics of gender in anime soundtracks βby Maria Gradyan from the bookβ Heavy Metal, Gender and Sexuality: Interdisciplonary Approache βnotes the musical background of the anime, which includesβ from classical melodies to hard rock and Arabic modalism β. Especially noted are the openings and endings of the Nightmare group. While the opening and closing songs of Aluminia in the second part of the anime, they rather gently support the standards and cleavage of Japanese heavy metal. Nightmare's "The World" song openly talks about the clash of cultures and identities in the modern era. The author describes how the unpolished stiffness of heavy metal unexpectedly contrasts with the lyrics βemanating from the universe of haiku poetryβ, manifested in disturbed rhythmic patterns and abstract meanings. A combination of Western images and Japanese symbols carries the ideology of comparing cultural identities, and not their opposition [7] .
The first opening of the anime - the Nightmare song βThe Worldβ took 18th place in the rating of the 25 best anime songs, according to The Daily Dot [8] .
In user voting on Ranker.com for the best anime soundtrack βDeath Noteβ took 6th place [9] .
In a user vote on Ranker.com for the best intro in anime, Nightmare's βThe Worldβ song took 2nd place [10] .
