Daniel J. “Dan” Hedaya ( born Daniel G. “Dan” Hedaya ; July 24, 1940 , Brooklyn ) is an American film actor . In the movie, he often plays villains or unbalanced villains. Best known for the following roles: the mafia boss Tony Castelo in the movie Explained Guys , the cuckold husband in the crime thriller Just Blood , General Martin Perez in the fantastic thriller Alien: Resurrection , and the treacherous dodger Nick Tortelli in the TV series The Fun Company .

Life and career
Hedaya was born in Brooklyn, New York , USA into a Sephardic Jewish family from Syria [1] . His father emigrated to the United States from Aleppo [2] . Daniel Hedaya grew up in the Bensonhurst area. In 1962 he graduated from Tufts University , also studied drama in Greenwich Village . For many years he worked as a primary school teacher, until he decided to become a professional actor [2] .
In addition to filming a movie, Dan also played roles in television series. Among them, the role of Nick, the ex-husband of Carla Tortelli in the sitcom “ Merry Company ”; the role of the father of one of the characters in the television series Family Ties ; Adrian Monk’s long-missing father in the series Detective Monk . In 1997 and 2005, the actor played a lawyer in the medical series Ambulance .
Dan Hedaya is known to the Russian audience for her roles as dictator Arius in the action movie Commando , Mel Horowitz in the comedy Stupid , General Martin Perez in the fantastic thriller Alien: Resurrection . Outward resemblance to Richard Nixon allowed him to play the former US president in the 1999 comedy " The Presidential Girlfriends "
In 2006, Hedaya received the PT Barnum Award for his outstanding work in the film industry.
