Biography
Born June 29, 1826 in Saumur ; attended the Higher Normal School in Paris and in 1849 he was sent to Athens, where he began to continue the excavations of the Acropolis and made discoveries that drew attention to him in the scientific world. He was soon recalled to Paris and appointed professor of archeology at the National Charter School .
In 1860, Böhle was elected to the Academy of Inscriptions and Fine Literature , and in 1862 he became permanent secretary of the Academy of Fine Arts .
Böhle's political career began in 1871 ; elected from the department of Maine and Loire to the national assembly , he sided with the right center. When in 1873 McMahon was elected president of the republic , Beaulet became Minister of the Interior, but after 6 months had to transfer his portfolio to the Duke de Broglie . The insulted pride and unsuccessful gambling so influenced Böhl that he laid hands on himself; April 4, 1874 he was found dead in bed.
He was buried in the Pere Lachaise cemetery (plot 4).
