Fifty Ceres Francs (France)

Fifty francs Ceres is a French banknote, the sketch of which was approved on November 15, 1934 and was issued by the Bank of France from March 15, 1935, before replacing the fifty francs by Jacques Coeur for a banknote.

History

A banknote belongs to a series of multicolored banknotes, the main theme of which are mythological and allegorical plots. It is also called the 1933 Type. The banknote was printed from November 1934 to May 1940. Issued on March 15, 1935. The beginning of the withdrawal of banknotes from circulation on December 16, 1943 until the termination of the status of legal tender from June 4, 1945.

Description

The authors of the banknote were the artist Clement Cervo and the engraver Ernest Pierre Delosh (1861-1950). The dominant colors are orange and brown. On the obverse are depicted: on the left, the goddess Ceres crowned with laurels and ears of wheat and grass, on the right a statue of a woman whose gaze is directed at Versailles Park. On the reverse: on the right is Mercury, dressed in blue clothes, holding a baton decorated with ears of wheat. On the left is a cornucopia, which is one of the attributes of Fortune . The watermark is the head of the goddess Ceres in profile, on which is placed a wreath of fruits. The size of the banknote is 155 mm x 90 mm [1] .
