Biography
Von Yagov came from the Altmark noble family. On March 18, 1887, he joined the von Citen (Brandenburg) regiment No. 3 as a fan-cadet hussar regiment. There he consistently became second-lieutenant (September 19, 1888) and Oberleutenant (January 27, 1897). June 12, 1901 became a squadron commander with the simultaneous production of the rank of captain . From July 25, 1904 to October 17, 1909 he served as an instructor in the Hanoverian Infantry Riding Institute, and then as an adjutant in the III Army Inspectorate. On April 21, 1911, he was promoted to majors and from April 18, 1913, served at the headquarters of the Baron von Mantoifel (Rheinsky) dragoon regiment No. 5, where he was the commander of the 7th reserve dragoon regiment by the beginning of World War I.
World War I
The first major battle on the Western Front for von Jagow was the battle of Nöfshato and Longwy. January 15, 1915 he was appointed commander of the personnel regiment, then other battles in the West followed until September 1915, when he was transferred with his unit on the Eastern Front . There he participated in the campaign against Serbia, and after the end of hostilities he was again transferred to the Western Front. Already in the rank of lieutenant colonel (from June 6, 1916), from January 15, 1918 he commanded the 16th reserve infantry regiment, and from September 7 of the same year - the 30th dismounted cavalry regiment. While in office, von Yagov was promoted to colonel on September 20.
After the war
At the end of the war, he commanded various cavalry regiments: from December 18, 1918 3rd Hussars, then from May 1, 1919 - 11th cavalry, then until May 1, 1920 - 16th cavalry in Kassel .
June 1, 1922 transferred to the headquarters of the 2nd district in Stettin . A month after the promotion (major general since January 1, 1923) Walter von Jagov himself headed the district, but this appointment was short-lived, three months later he took the post of commander of the 1st Cavalry Division ( Frankfurt an der Oder ). Since April 1, 1925 - Lieutenant General.
On April 30, 1927, von Yagov was dismissed while being promoted to the rank of general from the cavalry.
He died on March 27, 1928 in Potsdam.
