Grüner Dawn [1] [2] (Latin Anthocharis gruneri ) is a day butterfly from the family of whites ( Pieridae ). One of the rarest species of whites in the territory of the former USSR [2] .

Name EtymologyA species epithet is given in honor of O. Grüner (1799–1860), a German entomologist and collector of insects [1] .
DescriptionFore wing length 10-18 mm. Wingspan 30–35 mm. The main background of the male’s wings is creamy white with a yellow tint in some areas. The vertices of the fore wings of the male are orange, and those of females are dark gray. The underside of the hind wings is gray-green with white spots [1] [2] .
RangeAlbania , Macedonia , Bulgaria , Greece , Turkey , Israel , Syria , Jordan , Northern Iraq , Iran , Transcaucasia , the main ridge in the west and in the eastern part of the Greater Caucasus [1] .
BiologyButterflies are found in areas with xerophytic vegetation , along stony, shrubby slopes, often with limestone outcrops. In the mountains rises to heights of up to 2000 meters above sea level. Develops in one generation in a year. The flight time of the butterflies is from April to July (depending on altitude [2] . The caterpillar feeds on leaves and developing seeds. Caterpillar feed plants: gallows [2] , Sisymbrium bilobum , Microthlaspi umbellatum [1] . Pupils on dry stalks of forage of plants A pupa hibernates [1] .
