Biography

The family came to the UK from Castelfranco in Miscano in 1958 , in 1972 moved to the United States . In the UK, Antonio did not attend music school, studying singing and piano privately. He graduated from . He worked as an accompanist and assistant conductor at the New York City Opera , at the Theater (Barcelona), at the Chicago Lyric Opera .

Since 1985 - assistant of Daniel Barenboim at the Bayreuth Festival ( Tristan and Isolda , Parsifal , Ring of the Nibelung ). As an independent conductor made his debut in 1987 at the (“ Bohemia ” by J. Puccini ), in 1990 became his musical director. In 1990, he conducted his conductor's debut in Covent Garden (Bohemia).

Conducted opera performances at the English National Opera , San Francisco Opera House, Chatelet Theater , Berlin State Opera , Vienna State Opera (1993, Siegfried ), Metropolitan Opera (1997, Eugene Onegin ), at the Bayreuth Festival ( Lohengrin ) )

In 1992 - 2002 he was the musical director of the La Monnet Theater in Brussels . In 1999 he also became the musical director of Covent Garden, in 2005 - the musical director of the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia . He performed as the main guest conductor of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra .

Conducted in concerts by the Philharmonic Orchestras of Oslo , Tokyo , Berlin , Los Angeles , Radio France , the Frankfurt and Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestras, Chicago , Boston , London , the Cleveland and Gürzenich Orchestras , the Paris , Orchestras , La Scala Theater and Philharmonic ".

As a pianist he performed with Barbara Bonney ( Liszt , Schumann ), Sarah Chang ( Prokofiev ), Rockwell Blake ( Rossini ) and others.
