Territory
The jurisdiction of the diocese includes 46 parishes in the communes of Tuscany - Livorno , Rosignano Marittimo , Capraia Isola and part of Collesalvetti .
The bishop's chair is located in the city of Livorno in the Church of St. Francis .
History
Throughout the XVIII century , efforts were made to ensure that the city received its bishop. The public, the local clergy, and the people addressed the Holy See with a request to establish a diocese. Only at the personal request of Maria Louise of Bourbon-Spain, Queen Regent of the Kingdom of Etruria bull Militantis Ecclesiae Pope Pius VII September 25, 1806 founded the diocese of Livorno. [one]
For the first time in the history of the diocese on September 14, 2007, the diocesan administrator, Monsignor Paolo Razzauti, agreed to perform in the cathedral an Orthodox funeral rite over four children of Romani immigrants from Romania who died in a fire in the barracks in Livorno on August 11, 2007 .
