Georg Holzer ( German: Georg Holzer ; born March 9, 1957 , Vienna , Austria ) is an Austrian linguist , professor at the University of Vienna . Corresponding Member of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Biography
Georg Holzer was born in Vienna in 1957 , graduated from the Department of Slavic Studies and Indo-European Linguistics at the University of Vienna, and in 1982 he defended his doctoral dissertation. From 1982 to 1985 he taught German at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb . In 1990 he underwent a rehabilitation procedure. In 1997, he was elected professor at the Institute of Slavic Studies at the University of Vienna, and continues to teach in Zagreb and Zadar .
Research
Georg Holzer is the author of more than 50 scientific publications, a well-known specialist in the field of Slavic and Indo-European linguistics, comparative studies and onomastics. In 1995, he proposed a new concept of the state of the Pre-Slavic language of approx. 7 c. n e., first met with skepticism, but then accepted by world Slavic studies. Together with Angela Bergermayer (Angela Bergermayer) G. Holzer leads the project “Die Sprache des mittelalterlichen Slawentums in Österreich (Language of medieval Slavs in Austria)” initiated by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, based on which a dictionary of toponyms of Slavic origin in modern Austria is being prepared for publication.
Corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, member of the Balkan Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, member of the editorial board of the journal “ Onomastics Issues ”.
