Air Mauritius Limited , operating as Air Mauritius , is the flagship airline of Mauritius , headquartered in Port Louis [5] , with scheduled passenger services at domestic and international airports. The airline’s home port and its main transit hub ( hub ) is Port Louis International Airport named after Sir Sivusagar Ramgoolam [6] .

51 percent of the ownership of Air Mauritius belongs to the holding “Air Mauritius Holdings Ltd.”, the majority of which, in turn, is held by the government of Mauritius [6] . The airline is wholly owned by Airmate Ltd., Air Mauritius Holidays (Pty) Ltd. Australia ”,“ Air Mauritius SA (Proprietary) Ltd. ”,“ Mauritian Holidays Ltd. ”(Great Britain) and“ Mauritius Helicopters Ltd. ”; and 93.7% of Mauritius Estate Development Corporation Ltd., 54.2% of Pointe Coton Resort Hotel Company Ltd. and 41.7% of Mauritius Shopping Paradise Company Ltd. [6] .
Air Mauritius ranks fourth in fleet size and passenger turnover among all airlines in sub-Saharan Africa [4] , with a strong route network connecting Mauritius with major airports in Europe , Africa and the Indian Ocean . In 2011, Air Mauritius for the seventh consecutive time received the award "The Best Airline of the Indian Ocean" [7] [8] .
History
Air Mauritius was founded on June 14, 1967 by Air France , BOAC and the Government of Mauritius, with each structure receiving 27.5% of the ownership of the new carrier, the company was transferred to Rogers and Co. Ltd. ”, which at that time was the general agent for the sale of airline tickets by Air France and BOAC [9] .
At the beginning of its activity, Air Mauritius carried out regular passenger transportations on international routes in partnership with the airlines Air France, Air India and British Airways , each of which, by 1978, owned 25% of the property of the Mauritian air carrier [10] [11] . From 1967 to 1972, Air Mauritius was engaged only in ground handling of aircraft of other airlines; in August 1972, the carrier leased a six-seater Piper PA-31 Navajo from Air Madagascar and opened its first regular flight between Mauritius and Rodriguez Island [11] . The following year, the airline leased a Vickers VC10 jet liner to British Airways on a wet lease and launched a long-haul route between Mauritius and London with an intermediate landing in Nairobi [11] [12] . November 1, 1977 on the same route, but without a transit stop, was put Boeing 707 , also leased from British British Airtours [10] .
In the 1970-80s, the airline served long-haul routes on Boeing 707 and Boeing 747SP aircraft , which were replaced by the more modern Boeing 767 and Airbus A340 from 1988 to 1994 [13] [14] . In 2001, Airbus A319 airliners took off on the medium-haul carrier routes to airports in African countries [15] , and flights between the islands of the eastern part of the African continent received ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft received from 1987 to 2002.
In 1995, Air Mauritius conducted an initial public offering of its shares on the Mauritius Stock Exchange. As of March 31, 2011, the main shareholders of the airline were Air Mauritius Holdings holding company (51%) and the government (8.4%), 19.9% of the company was in the hands of private investors [6]
In March 2007, the airline staffed 2761 employees.
Routing Network
In July 2011, the Air Mauritius regular airline route network included 26 destinations between Mauritius and airports in Asia , Africa , Europe and Oceania , while in early July, the route to Shanghai became the 26th regular carrier flight [16] . In February of the following year, the airline announced the termination of unprofitable flights to Milan , Melbourne and Sydney from May [4] [17] [18] [19]
Partnership Agreements
In April 2012, Air Mauritius had code-sharing agreements with the following airlines [19] :
- Air France - on the Port Louis - Paris - Port Louis route and on several European Air France routes from Paris
- Emirates Airline - On the route Port Louis - Dubai - Port Louis
- Malaysia Airlines - on several routes from Kuala Lumpur
- South African Airways - on the route Port Louis - Johannesburg - Port Louis.

Air Mauritius has its own Kestrelflyer frequent flyer reward program with two privileges: Silver (Silver) and Gold ( 20) .
Fleet
In April 1988, the airline commissioned two Boeing 767-200ER airliners, giving them the unofficial name “City of Port Louis” ( Russian City of Port Louis and “City of Curepipe” ( Russian City of Kurpip) [14] . One of of these aircraft set a record among twin-engine jet aircraft with a commercial load, making a non-stop flight on 18 April 1988 from Halifax Municipal Airport ( Nova Scotia , Canada ) to Mauritius and covering a distance of 14 thousand kilometers in less than 17 hours [14] [21 ] ] .
In 1994, Air Mauritius was the first among all airlines in sub-Saharan Africa to launch the long-haul Airbus A340-300 [13] . In mid-2005, the carrier ordered a modified aircraft of the same type (Airbus A340-300 Enhanced) [13] [22] , which began regular flights on the route between Mauritius and London Heathrow Airport [23]
In March 2007, Air Mauritius became the first South African commercial airline to operate , with a fleet of only medium and long-haul airliners manufactured by Airbus . At the end of the same year, the airline's fleet replenished with the first Airbus A330-200 aircraft [24] .
