Tetrachondra ( lat. Tetrachondraceae ) is a small family of flowering plants of the order Lamiales ( lat. Lamiales ), containing 2 genera and 3 species [2] .

Range
The range of the family is divided and consists of two parts. The first includes New Zealand , Australia, and Patagonia , and the second extends from the southern United States to South America .
Botanical Description
Small creeping or erect perennial herbaceous plants . Two species are succulents , contain essential oils . The third species is an aquatic plant. The leaves are small, opposite, simple, leathery, with only short petioles. The edge of the leaf is finely serrated.
Flowers solitary, axillary or apical. The flowers are very small, radially symmetric , hermaphroditic, four-membered, with a double perianth . Four bell-shaped sepals fuse together. Four petals can both grow together and remain free and bell-shaped. Four free fertile stamens are arranged in one circle. Two carpels , fused, form the upper or lower ovary . A column with a small scar. The ovary cavity is again divided by false partitions into 4 compartments.
Fruit - a box consisting of two parts, or multi-roots , folding of 4 small nuts .
Taxonomy
Previously, the tetrachondra family was part of the Boraginaceae ( lat. Boraginaceae ) or Lamiaceae ( Lat. Lamiaceae ) families. The genus Polypremum has always been placed in the Loganie family ( lat. Loganiaceae ).
