Content
AppearanceBody length 23-24 cm, tail 6 cm. Coloring is very beautiful. The head, from the forehead to the back of the head, is painted black. The bridle and peri-ocular rings are green. The "front" part of the head, the throat is orange-yellow. The top of the neck from the border of the back to the back of the head and down to the chest is covered by a wide belt of orange-brown color, on which there are several blue feathers. The back, wings and upper side of the tail are green. Chest, belly creamy white with a slight yellowish tinge. The tibia feathers around the thigh and sides are orange, as is the inside of the tail. Beak is black and gray. The iris is orange. Paws are gray.
DistributionIt lives in Guyana , in the north of Brazil , northeast of Peru , east of Ecuador and southern Colombia .
LifestyleInhabits tropical rainforests , human settlements are usually shunned. It feeds on seeds of wild plants, fruits and nuts, but sometimes it flies to corn plantations. Large flocks gather only in places of abundant feeding, and usually are kept in pairs or family groups. They are most active at dawn and in the late afternoon. At this time, they can be heard at a very great distance, because they have a very loud voice, and it is very unpleasant.
ReproductionIn clutch 4 eggs , incubation lasts 26 days. Young fly out of the nest at the age of 63-68 days.

- Western black-capped parrot Pionites melanocephala pallidus ( Berlepsch , 1889 ) - has a similar color to the nominative subspecies, but its belly is pure white, without a yellow tint and the feathers of the sides and lower leg are yellow.
