Michael II (Bishop of Smolensk)

Bishop Michael (d. May 6, 1402 ) - Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church , Bishop of Smolensk .

Canonized in the face of the saints , commemorated on July 6 in the Cathedral of Radonezh Saints .

Biography

He was tonsured a monk in the Moscow Simon Monastery , where he was known for his strict ascetic life. In the Simonov Monastery he was an associate of Theodore , later Archbishop of Rostov and teacher of the Monk Kirill Belozersky .

In 1383, he was consecrated bishop of Smolensk .

At the beginning of 1389 he accompanied Metropolitan Pimen of Kiev and All Russia to Constantinople , and in October of the same year, Metropolitan Cyprian of Kiev and All Russia.

October 7, 1397, together with Metropolitan Cyprian arrived in Moscow .

In 1396 , avoiding the turmoil and disorder that occurred in the Principality of Smolensk , he left the pulpit and retired to the Trinity-Sergius Monastery , where he died on May 6, 1402. He was buried in the Holy Trinity Sergius Monastery.
