International Opera Festival in Savonlinna

Savonlinna International Opera Festival ( Finnish Savonlinnan Oopperajuhlat , Swedes. Nyslotts operafestival , Eng. Savonlinna Opera Festival ) is the oldest music opera festival in Finland, held annually since 1912 at the St. Olav's Fortress in Savonlinna .

History

The Opera Festival was established in 1912 and is held annually in the month of July in the fortress of St. Olav in Savonlinna .

2012

In the year of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the festival, two world premieres took place - the opera La Fenice by Finnish composer Kimmo Hakola and the opera Free Will , first created on the Internet. [1] This year the festival was visited by a record number of spectators - 73 thousand people. [2]

2013

On July 5, the first day of the festival, which opened with the opera Samson and Delilah ( C. Saint-Saens ), the concert was attended by Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and German President Joachim Gauck, who paid an official visit to the country [3] [4] .

The opera La Traviata ( D. Verdi ) was first performed at the festival, and the opera Ball Masquerade (D. Verdi) and the opera Eugene Onegin ( P. I. Tchaikovsky ) were staged by the Mikhailovsky Theater [5] [6 ] ]

2014

The festival, which started on July 4, was opened by the Finnish opera , which was based on the Karelian-Finnish epic Kalevala [7] .

2016

Within the framework of the festival, the first production of the Czech composer Leos Janacek 's opera “ From the Dead House ”, performed by the Welsh National Opera with the participation of Finnish opera singers and [8], was held within the framework of the festival.

2017

In connection with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Finland's independence on July 27, the festival was visited by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Finnish President Sauli Niinistö ; they attended the premiere of the opera " Iolanthe ", presented by the artists of the Bolshoi Theater [9] .

2018

The festival opened on July 6 with the opera The Queen of Spades staged by Finnish director Jere Erkkil (conductor Alexander Vedernikov ; Lisa's part - Elena Guseva, soloist of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Theater) [10] . On September 14 and 15, the Festival opened in Moscow Verdi 's Othello opera with the Bolshoi Theater season on the New Stage [11] .

Financing

14% of the target funds for the festival come from the Ministry of Education of Finland and the municipality of Savonlinna , 70% is the proceeds from the sale of tickets and about 10% - based on agreements on cooperation with legal entities.
