Boris Vladimirovich Dubin ( December 31, 1946 , Moscow - August 20, 2014 , ibid.) - Soviet and Russian sociologist , philologist, poet-translator, literary critic.

Boris Dubin is a translator of English-speaking, French, Spanish and Latin American, Polish literature. In 2006–2012 Head of the Department of Social and Political Studies of the Analytical Center of Yuri Levada ( Levada Center ), Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal " Public Opinion Journal ". In 2012— 2014 member of the editorial board of the journal " Foreign Literature ".

Biography

Born in a family of doctors. He was close to SMOG poets, especially - to Vl. Batsheva and S. Morozov , published in samizdat , in the second half of the 1960s, he was briefly engaged in the literary seminar of Zinovy Paperny at the Union of Writers of the USSR , attended seminars of Arseny Tarkovsky , David Samoilov , visited Boris Slutsky . He graduated from the philological department of Moscow State University ( 1970 ) with a degree in Russian language and literature, French. The open press began publishing in 1970 . He worked in the State Library of the USSR. VI Lenin ( 1970 - 1985 ), Institute of the Book at the All-Union Book Chamber ( 1985 - 1988 ). In 1988–2003 he was an employee of the All-Union (later All-Russian) Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) , from where in 2003 , together with his colleagues, he transferred to the Analytical Center of Yuri Levada ( Levada-Center) , where he worked until 2012.

In the mid-1990s, in conjunction with Lev Gudkov, he gave a course of lectures on the sociology of literature at the Institute of European Cultures of the RSUH ^[1] , in the early 2000s - a course of lectures on the history of modernism at the MSSES .

Literary Activity

From 1970 he collaborated with the publishing house " Fiction ", later - Progress and Rainbow . The first published translations are several poems by T. Gautier ( 1972 ). The largest translated works are the Spanish song lyrics of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the poetry of the golden age ( San Juan de la Cruz , L. de Leon , Boscan , Calderon , Gongora and others), verses and prose of Apollinaire , Endre Adi , Ruben Dario , Antonio Machado , Jimenesh essays of Hannah Arendt , Susan Sontag , Isaiah Berlin , Beckett , Maurice Blanchot , Emil Cioran , Henri Michaux , Michel de Certeau , Michel Serra , Jean Starobin , Bonnefoy , Jacotot , Jacques Dupin , Michel Degi , Maria Zambrano , Jose Ortega y Gasset , Julio Cortazar , Jose Angel Valente , Giorgio Agamben and others. Translated such Polish authors as Bruno Schulz , Jerzy Liebert , Krzysztof Bachinsky , Cheslav Milos , Janusch Schuber and Eugenius Tkachishin-Dytsky . Compiled and translated the anthology of Space in other words: French poets of the 20th century about the image in art (St. Petersburg: Ivan Limbach Publishing House , 2005 ), a book of selected poetry and prose by Jose Lesama Lima Enchanted Size (St. Petersburg: Publisher Ivan Limbach, 2012 ). His own poems were published in the book of Poruq. Selected Poems and Translations (St. Petersburg: Ivan Limbach Publishing House, 2013 ).

He published articles about the latest foreign literature, about modern Russian poetry.

Recognition

Winner of a number of awards for essays and translations. Commander of the Order of Merit ( France , 2008).

Winner of the Foreign Literature, Banner , Knowledge is Power Prizes, the Hungarian Ministry of Culture Prize, the Anatol Leroy-Beaulieu Prize (France – Russia), the Maurice Waksmacher Prize (France – Russia), the Efim Etkind Prize , the Prize Andrei Bely .
