about the project

The organization was established on November 1, 2003 as a team in the Counter-Strike discipline. Later, other gaming directions were opened in the organization: DotA - opened in November 2007, taking the full team of maGe [7] . The debut tournament was the ASUS open cup Spring 2007, where they won first place [8] . From autumn 2009 to April 2011, the project was frozen, and some players supported projects such as UNiTED and Iron Will [5] . The World of Tanks division opened in January 2013. The debut tournament was ESL Go4WoT # 93, where they took second place [9] . StarCraft Division established in May 2012. The debut tournament was Playhem $ 75 Daily, where the team took third place [10] . In mid-October 2015, it was announced that USM Holdings Alisher Usmanov, together with UTV Holding , would invest $ 100 million in Virtus.pro [11] .

The project is represented by professional players, coaches and managers from Russia, the CIS countries and Western Europe . Over the ten years of the project, management and players have changed many times. At different times, the project was sponsored by BenQ [12] , MelBet , APC, Tesoro. In 2013, sponsorship was provided by Gametrix and BlackBerry.

The logo of the project is a polar bear [13] , but a brown bear is used in the video splash screens on the youtube.com channel [14] . The official form of e-sportsmen is black T-shirts with orange sides, with a black-and-white-orange version of the logo located on it, or a completely black hoodie with a white-orange stripe on the hood [15] . After signing a contract with MegaFon in August 2018, the color scheme of the logo and form changed to: black, white, green and purple [16] .

For the first time, the roster for this gaming discipline was assembled in early October 2012, the backbone of the roster was players from Counter-Strike 1.6 divisions such as Mikhail Garanin and Taras Voitenko [18] . Immediately after a couple of training, it became known that Taras will not play for Virtus Pro [19] . Vladimir Shmakov came to replace [20] .

However, after a couple of weeks the line-up was changed, players from   Moscow Five : brothers Mikhail and Sergey Stolyarov, players in Counter-Strike 1.6, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian Counter-Strike 1.6: Kirill Karasev and Emil Akhundov. The fifth member of the team was a player from Kazakhstan, Dauren Kystaubaev [21] . By the end of the season, this line-up made itself known on the world stage; in the fourth season of the SLTV StarSeries, the guys took second place. The loudest was the victory in the fifth season of this event in April 2013, when in the LAN final the guys outplayed the titled   NiP , winning four of four cards.

Ladislav replaced Dauren. Kovacs later played for VP at the FACEIT Cup and in the matches of the SLTV series. On June 2, 2013, Dauren Kystaubaev announced that he was leaving the Virtus.pro project [23] .

Counter-Strike 1.6

Counter-Strike 1.6 Male

Counter-Strike 1.6 was the most successful in the history of the Virtus.pro project. For almost a ten-year history, more than two dozen professional players in Counter Strike played under the banner of bears.

The division appeared in early November 2003, when the leadership of the Virtus production center decided to create a team in the Counter-Strike gaming discipline. The bet was made on the players of the strongest Moscow team at that time - A-Line: Vitaly Smirnov (Ant1killer), Ivan Kochugov (F_1N), Peter Zakharov (Patr1ck), Viktor Filimonchenko (Sally) and Sergey Ignatko (Meg1oN).

Throughout the year, the first roster of Virtus.pro won almost all tournaments in Russia, such as: ASUS OPEN, Ural Cup, Communist Party Cup, VikaWeb Open Cup and others. Despite the fact that the first team gave a good start to the project, three players: Ant1killer, Patr1ck and Meg1oN left the team deciding to tie up with e-sports. In December, Konstantin Pikiner, Aleksey Kolesnikov, Aleksey Zlobich came under the banner of “bears”.

The unit was disbanded on October 9, 2012 [138] .

Former players

Over the nine-year history, the team was visited by 27 players, 22 of whom are representatives of Russia, and 5 - of Ukraine .
