Biography
Born in 1944 in Moscow. He began wrestling in 1964.
For the first time he achieved success at the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR in 1967, remaining the fourth, but already in 1969 he became the champion of the USSR and the next year he repeated the success, and also became the champion of Europe.
He was included in the Olympic team . At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, he fought in the weight category of up to 90 kilograms. The winner is determined by the minimum number of penalty points: no penalty points were awarded for a clear victory ( carcass ), 0.5 or 1 penalty point was awarded for victory by decision of the judges; 4 penalty points were awarded for a net loss; 3 penalty points were awarded for a points loss; 2 penalty points for a draw. The athlete who received 6 penalty points before the final bouts was eliminated from the tournament.
In battles:
- in the first round, he won by a decision of the judges against Roland Andersson ( Sweden ), getting 0.5 penalty points;
- in the second round stewed in the 3rd minute Changi Rama ( India );
- in the third round in a fight with Ben Peterson ( USA , the future Olympic champion, a draw was recorded, which brought 2 penalty points;
- in the fourth round, at the 2nd minute, Pavel Kurzewski ( Poland ) was stewing;
- in the fifth round, he won by a decision of the judges against Gunther Spindler ( GDR ), getting 0.5 penalty points;
- in the final, in which Strakhov had to win cleanly, Karoy Baiko defeated him on points and received silver.
