Heiner Brand ( German: Heiner Brand , born July 26, 1952 , Gummersbach , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German former handball player and coach. He was the coach of the German national handball team from 1997 to 2011.

Career
Brand is one of those who won the world handball championship both as a player (in 1978) and as a coach (in 2007). In 1976, he was a member of the West German team, which took fourth place in the Olympic tournament in Montreal . He played all six matches and scored twelve goals.
Personal life
Brand is married and has two children. His two older brothers Klaus and Jochen also played for the German national handball team. His trademark is his walrus large mustache .
