Born on February 20, 1929 in the Khlopkov farm, Kiev region , Ukraine .
Education
He graduated from high school in Rybinsk . In 1952, he graduated from the Geography Department of Moscow State University , where he completed postgraduate studies (supervisor - Professor I. M. Maergoiz ).
Scientific activity
Prominent organizer of the social and scientific life of Moscow geographers in the 1960s and 1980s . He was the first deputy of I. D. Papanin as chairman of the Moscow branch of the Geographical Society of the USSR. Member of the editorial board of "Questions of Geography", editor and chairman of the editorial board of many subject collections. For a long time he collaborated with VINITI , prepared several issues of the series “Results of science and technology. Geography of the USSR. " Member of the organizing committee of a number of scientific meetings and sessions of the economic-geographical section of the International Academy of Regional Development and Cooperation, editor of the proceedings of these sessions for 1985 - 1990 . One of the leading specialists in economic geography of the USSR in the 1970s - 1980s . Researcher and head of departments at a number of institutes of the USSR Academy of Sciences, USSR State Planning Commission and the RSFSR State Planning Commission . He developed a regional direction in economic geography . The author of fundamental works on economic zoning, territorial-production complexes, resettlement, and the geography of passenger transport. He developed the original version of the economic zoning of the USSR at the mesoscale. He proposed new approaches to the study of passenger traffic. He studied the impact of economic processes on regional development. He investigated the territorial organization of the economy of Kazakhstan , Ukraine , the Urals , Siberia .
