Content
Biography
Graduate of the Higher School of Bridges and Roads ; Bertrand's Assistant at the College de France since 1874 ; Professor of the Central Paris School ( École centrale Paris ) since 1875, and since 1885 he occupied the Department of Analytical Geometry and Celestial Mechanics at the College de France. In 1883 he was elected to the Paris Academy of Sciences . Foreign Corresponding Member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1889) [2] .
He has published many works in various fields of pure and applied mathematics (including analytic geometry ). His work in mechanics relates to graphic statics , solid kinematics , hydrodynamics and hydraulics , elasticity theory and plasticity theory .
Proceedings
He published essays in the Reports of the Academy of Sciences ( Comptes rendus de l'Académie des sciences ) and the Bulletin of Mathematical Sciences ( Bulletin des sciences mathématiques ). Among the most famous works:
- "Essai théorique et appliqué sur le mouvement des liquides" (1867);
- “La statique graphique et les applications aux constructions” (1874);
- “Sur la transformation des coordonnées curviligne”;
- "Sur les surfaces dont l'élément linéaire est homogène" (1878);
- "Sur le principe d'énergie" (1888).
