Mariano Soriano Fuertes y Piqueras ( Spanish: Mariano Soriano Fuertes y Piqueras ; March 28, 1817 , Murcia - March 26, 1880 , Madrid ) - Spanish composer, musicologist, music critic, conductor. Son of Indalescio Soriano Fuertes .
Initially, he chose a military career, but then, following the example of his father, turned to music. Together with Joaquin Espin-i-Guillen founded in 1842 the first Spanish music magazine - “La Iberia Musical”, in which his father also collaborated. In the same year he spoke with his first sarzuela - “Heroma, the Chestnut Saleswoman” ( Spanish: Jeroma la castañera ). Then he worked as the musical director of the Lyceum in Cordoba and the director of the San Fernando Theater in Seville , and in 1852 he headed the Liceu Opera House in Barcelona ; during the Barcelona period he also directed the Barcelona Music Newspaper. He published The General History of Spanish Music ( Spanish Historia general de la música española ; 1855 ), as well as an essay on Arabic music and a study on choral societies in Spain. In the last years of his life, he taught at the Madrid Conservatory .
